  1. Satisfied customer – Italy

Bought as a gift to replace a previous Omron model which delighted its recipient. Does all that it says. Easy to set. Good big display. Nice to download the data on to the computer to keep track of the distance covered over the year. Well packaged. arrived a couple of days later than forecast, but that did not present a problem. Well pleased with the purchase so far – hope it lasts as long as the previous one – almost four years with constant wear (only replaced it as got some detergent on the display-face which spoilt the viisbility).

The Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer keeps track of up to 42 days of activity – on an hour by hour basis! Connect it to your PC and get a great running total of your walking exercise. I love this thing!

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer First, some history. I started out with a cheap, regular pedometer. It sort of worked, and sort of counted steps. I had to reset it and write things down. Soon I had upgraded to the Omron HJ-112 (the model below this one). It was awesome. You could wear it on your hip or carry it in your purse. It auto reset every night so you didn’t have to think about it – you just walked around with it on and always knew your steps for the last 7 days.

But as I actually started to pay attention to my walking, I wanted to keep track of it. Yes, I could write down what the pedometer said, but often I forgot to do that. I wanted to see comparisons of how I was doing over time, but my Excel spreadsheet was a bit more work than I wanted to get into.

A friend of mine had bought this HJ-720ITC version and simply adored it. I was finally talked into upgrading. I’m so glad I did! Now it is SUPER easy. I wear the pedometer on my hip. Every few days I plug it into my computer with a simple USB cable. POOF! My running total is updated. Not only that but it even tracks on an HOURLY basis how I’m doing!!

You can track multiple people, see things by day, week or month. You can even set goals and see how you’re doing towards those goals.

Now, a down side. When you set your goal and you don’t reach it, you get a frowny face!! It’s very disappointing. I don’t need to be beaten up for being sick or something. My friend had actually said he deliberately lowered his goals just to get away from those frowny faces. I didn’t understand what he meant until I got the software – but now I agree. They should have done that differently.

In terms of how the pedometer itself works, it is excellent, just like the “lower end” Omron. It is very accurate and works quite well either on your hip or in your purse. If you use the purse you have it clipped vertically, as they tell you to.

    Highly recommended!

I am totally in love with this pedometer. I have been searching, and yes – I did spend a little more than I wanted, yet it was absolutely worth it! I love that I can upload the information on to my computer. All of the features are great, really. Steps, the time, distance, calories – aerobic steps, and all I have to do is make sure it is attached to my person.

It is motivating to have this attached to your person, and wonderful for people that are too busy to get to the gym. Everyone walks I thought. Research shows that if you walk 10000 steps a day you can lose 20 lbs over 5 months, so here I go.

I would also like to mention that I order this product, and was told that it would take 4 – 6 weeks. I thought, ah! I would like to start using it now, but I guess I will have to wait – the next thing you know it’s in my doorway….like, 4 days later.

Truly – nothing negative to say.

I am writing this review as much in response to the poor reviews as to contribute my own rave review. As to customer service issues, I have not had any. With other companies, I have opted for a “last-ditch” strategy which may or may not work with Omron. I find the name of the North American CEO or the international CEO (or President) and write a letter (Yes, Virginia, snail mail) spelling out my difficulties, the problem with their product, and the promise of an excellent or totally rotten review of their product on every website possible commencing three weeks from my mail date. While I have rarely had to go this route, I have had extremely good results with it.

These units have worked perfectly for us. I ordered two of these in September 2011, one for myself and one for my husband. Later I ordered one for my daughter. As I might have expected, they use theirs only sporadically, but I use mine almost every day (unless I forget to pick it up). This pedometer is wonderful. One BIG DEAL: if you wash the pedometer, it can easily be saved. I know this because I may have the cleanest pedometer out there. Once you discover that you have washed your HJ-720, take out the battery and place the unit in a container of dry rice covering the pedometer. Leave for twenty four hours. Replace the battery (try the old one first; it probably will work). Presto, you are back to a working pedometer. I have done this with mine at least four times.

I really like the clock feature, as I use the unit as my timepiece as well as a pedometer. The different readings are a bit over the top for me as I rarely hit any aerobic streak during a normal day, but I do like to know if that happens. Be sure to accurately measure your step length as to get accurate data. The readout is pretty clear on the top row, but the bottom is small.

When I take a trip which may include a lot of walking, I especially like seeing the distances over the course of several days. Disneyworld will really amp up your readings!

I did order some extral lanyards for clipping on the pedometer, but I don’t know that this was essential. I just didn’t want to lose a pedometer this expensive. Although obviously I don’t seem to mind submitting it to water and detergent on occasion.

There are several options for software download; I use the Omron one. My husband opted for another, but didn’t like it as much.

Update February 2016: it’s still going!

The device gives me a good history of my efforts at “10,000 steps a day” per my doctor’s advice. Alas, after three weeks, I am finding my goal hard to come by, averaging about half of my goal. I hope over time I can improve. But I really like the way the device works and the fact that I can upload data to my computer and see a record of my progress. My exercise problems aren’t the fault of my device, but it certainly has helped me realize what I need to do to get to my goal. (And I’m sure the shin splints will go away eventually…) – update, I lost my pedometer while picking blackberries! Obviously hadn’t secured the clip as well as I thought I had done. Went back to Amazon and got another one. The blackberries were delicious, but this made them a tad expensive!

I had the Omron Walking Style Pro Pedometer before I bought this one. It was perfect, but I lost it last week. There are hundreds of Pedometers out there, but I decided to buy this one as it is similar to my last one. This is the previous version of the Omron Walking Style Pro Pedometer & is virtually the same. The Omron Walking Style Pro uses kms & this one uses miles, which I prefer. It was a lot easier with the Omron Walking Style Pro to set my stride length, but I’ve tested the HJ720ITC & it is pretty accurate too. It will take a few days to adjust the settings until it is accurate. It is so similar to the Omron Walking Style Pro that I got it set up in a few mins. To test it I measured a route in Google maps then walked it & the HJ720ITC was only 0.1 of a mile out. But as I go on long walks these could add up. So I will be testing it thoroughly today. Very pleased, as I know it will last for years like my last one.

The only niggle I have is the manual stated there should be a small screwdriver in the packet, but there wasn’t one.
