This unassuming little gadget makes it so easy to open jars.
Frugalgene –
Works well for opening jars.

We use it for opening jars and under slippery plates when cutting a roast so the plate doesn’t move. Also we use it for a trivet. It really didn’t have much of a smell. The thickness is good. Any thicker and you won’t be able to use it. It is smooth on one side and has grips on the other. I am not sure if grips would be best on both sides or not. Good overall.

I’ve had something similar in the house for years – not silicone, rubber. It works great so I thought this might do the trick with this newer gas can I have in the barn. I have pretty bad hands and I’ve read this new generation of gas cans is hard for everyone, but especially someone with arthritic hands. Well it works I’m happy to say. I am also going to upgrade with another one for the house.

I already had a nifty rubber lid opener. I wanted another to be able to hold one to a canning jar while I also hold one to the lid. (The lids in question are the plastic with a silicone seal type, used for storage, not canning. PS, they are GREAT! They *really* seal! lol)
My already existing lid grabber is a nice thin, but not too thin, rubber (I assume). It has lasted for years. I wanted that one again since it works so well.
I bought it in a store and have been unable to find them again. I thought it was this same gripper, so I bought this one from Norpro, (1) not realizing it was silicone, not rubber, (as I had been looking at so many lol), and (2) not realizing how much thicker it is than the one I have already.
So far it does not seem nearly as useful as the other one. It seems too thick to get a great grip on lids or jars, even with the nifty tread on it.
When this Norpro one used on the jar, if the jar is cold from the fridge, it doesn’t grip the jar well, just sliding in your hands. But it is too thick to easily use on the lid instead. It isn’t much better with room temp jars.
I have had a better time just keeping those thick asparagus rubber bands on the jars and holding the jar between my legs and hoping I don’t spill or drop the jar as I use my old gripper on the lid.
I was hoping for a more useful fix when I bought this gripper, to replace my rubber band method, as I am going to eventually drop a jar this way, I am sure.
I am hoping that this gripper just has a bit of a learning curve on grip, as silly as that seems for a jar gripper!
Wouldn’t buy this again, and would have bought the off brand, multi pack, thinner ones here on Amazon.
remarks –
Great for opening stubborn caps on bottled water and problematic jars. I’ve tried other sets but this brand beats them all. Easy to use, pretty design, and the small hole makes it useful for hanging on a small kitchen nail.
This is the one to get! Beautifully made with a perfect grip for all size bottle caps and jars.

So many of these are too small for larger jars but this one can handle it. Love it has some style. Can use either side as needed. Bright color makes it easy to find in the drawer.
