  1. TIMMY!!

This system works as intended in helping us get my 81-year-old mother to her bathroom at night, etc. She had 6 strokes (not one folks, but SIX…wish I was as tough as her!!), so we needed a system to alert us when she needs help, such as bathroom, etc. I bought an additional call button so we could have one on each safety rail of her hospital bed (here at home) because she would forget where the one call button was. Clear instructions had it programmed to the monitor in no time, so now she has no problem rousing us.

May sound like a plant review to some, but it has been invaluable to us, so again, thank you Smart Caregiver.

Smart Caregiver sells a series of patient and caregiving monitors and alert devices. This system is from their “economy” line and has a single call button pendant that is wirelessly linked to an audio and light alert box. The call button is a battery powered push button that comes with a 36 inch cord which is looped to 18 inches so the button can be worn around the neck as a pendant. The call button is powered by a “specialty” A23, 12 Volt, battery. The alert box is an approximately 5 1/4 x 3 3/4 x 1 1/4 inch plastic box with a red LED? light bar on one end. The alert box can be powered with 3 “C” cells or by a provided AC adapter that plugs into the side of the box. The box has no clips and is designed to be mounted on a flat surface such as a wall with the provided screws and mounting hardware.

The alert box has two three-position sliding switches, one on each side of the box. One switch is ALARM>OFF>CHIME so you only have two audio choices for the alert. The second switch is a HI>MI>LO volume control. For me, the low volume level with chime is a comfortable alert that doesn’t scare the heck out of me when it is triggered. The call button and alert box are pre-programmed to “talk” to each other. You don’t have to adjust any frequency settings…just plug it in right out of the box. If you want to fiddle with the wireless frequencies, it is possible to add up to five wireless Smart Caregiver components to this system. When powered the red light bar on the alert box will double-flash periodically to let you know it is on. When an alert is triggered the audio alarm with sound and the light bar will glow a steady red. Once the call button is pushed the audio alarm will continuously sound until the alarm is cut off by the switch on the side of the alert box. Let me emphasize this again, the audio alarm continues to sound even after the call button is released. You have to go to the alert box to cut it off.

Ok, this is a pretty good system, but two issues have come up. I have had one false alarm (i.e., the alert box triggered without the call button being pushed). Also, I find that having a continuous alarm that can only be cut off at the alert box can be annoying. I have a second Smart Caregiver pager system which came with two call buttons and a battery operated belt clip alert that is much smaller than the alert box in this system. In the pager system, the audio alert cuts off once the call button is released and I have never had a false alarm with it. Of course there are compromises, the pager alert is battery only and can’t be plugged in and it only has an audio alert, not a light alert. In summary, good system, but four stars instead of five for some minor shortcomings.

This device worked great for my dad. He wore it around his neck. When his voice was weak & unable to be picked up on baby monitor, he would press the button. The button was easy for him to push, even when he was weak. The sound the alarm makes can be recognized at a good distance. The alarm can run on batteries or by electricy.

I bought it for my Step-Mom. She has a brain injury. Since new information gets forgotten immediately, she took the part she’s supposed to wear and put it someplace.
I wish there was some device I could get that she cannot remove. If I could pin it to her. Something. Otherwise. The product worked fine.

Bought this wireless alarm as an aid for my wife. She is in her 70s and has occasional hands and legs mobility issues; that is, she needs help to get up if she falls (bad knees) or to reach up to get things (bad shoulders). This “Nurse Call” (NC) device turned out to be very helpful. The call-button hangs on a cloth chain that she can wear around her neck. When pressed, it sets off the beep-beep alarm in the base unit. This alarm has three volume setting: Hi, Medium, and Low. The Hi-volume setting can be heard throughout my house; or the Low-volume is good for a bedroom night stand/table. The base unit is A/C powered, but it can be moved to anywhere in the house when switched to battery power (3 C-cell batteries). I really like this base-unit mobility and the alarm’s adjustable volume settings. Wife just has to press the NC button to call me.

Sent this and the monitor to my parents as a gift. They have called the manufacture 4 times and gotten 3 replacements. The replacements are just as poor quality as the one before. The manufacture keeps forcing them into replacements.

I ordered this product for my 90 year old mother-in-law December 15, 2013. We wanted a product that immediately notified us and had no monthly cost. My mother-in-law lives next door, so we did not need a product that called a switchboard and then called us. We read plenty of product descriptions on many products. I thought I was taking a risk, since this monitor was reasonably priced.
We have now used this product for 17 months. We have found it easy for my mother-in-law to use. “Press the button,” how easy is that? Several times she has fallen, and we arrived at her side in 2 minutes.
The alarm is loud, like we want it. It is for emergencies, so we want it urgent and not ignored.
I find the customer service to be exemplary. Twice I have had a call from a representative answering a question,or clarifying my order. Imagine that, a human giving prompt and courteous customer service! It boggles the mind.
It is lightweight, easy to use, easy to set up, easy to hear the alarm, easy on the wallet, with courteous representatives. I recommend this product for peace of mind regarding the care of your loved one.
