I like the realistic pictures, simple wording and prompts in this activity. Can be used with students as well.

My mom has dementia. I got the ECROUATY Relaxing Cognitive Memory Adult Game Picture Books thinking it would give us something to do together. Pages of the book are a thick and good quality glossy paper. The photos are generally well done. I don’t dislike this set, but it was not as meaningful to my mom when I went over it with her. In fact, some of the sayings and photos made her angry or cry (“why would anyone want to hurt such a pretty bird” and “who ate all the icing” just to mention a couple). I know that isn’t the intent of these books, and I’ll scroll past those sections in the future, just warning others that you may not get the reaction you expect.

These books are made of heavy paper and are glossy. The pictures are nice and clear. Some of the sayings are over my mom’s head but every time she asks me to fill them in, I just say “I also don’t know”. I feel it’s on the person who has dementia and how much memory they lose. It does help keep them busy and helps pass the time away. They also give me a break from all the other activities I do over and over. I’m thinking about removing the staples and cutting the pages, so I can laminate them and have them last longer (you can get the laminating machine and sheets on Amazon). These books also help me by taking away some of the stress of dealing with a person with dementia. For that reason alone, I highly recommend them.

These paperback books have nice colorful photos with large font of popular proverbs and idioms. I agree they are “Ideal for use in nursing homes, memory care programs, and at home, they provide a dignified and comforting reading experience.” Easy to hold and lightweight. Very useful tool for those supporting adult cognitive health.

These look like magazines. The printing and paper are quality… the pictures vibrant.
However the sayings aren’t quite what I was expecting. My gma had dementia and she didn’t quite engage well with them. Maybe it depends on which stage of dementia, I’m not really sure.

PROS:
– A good way to engage with someone with memory or cognitive struggles
– A good form of stimulation to get the brain thinking and working in important ways
– I liked that it had images of different animals, places and food, and was colorful
CONS:
– Quality of item could be better, staples not a good idea
– Negative and often confusing sayings on some images, might cause upset with people instead of being helpful.
– I wish there were interesting facts instead of negative idioms and pictures on some of the cards. It leaves a very negative feeling with me after reading and looking at a lot of the images.
Cognitive Memory Adult Game Picture Book – 3 stars
When I saw this product it really resonated with me because my Father in Law had Dementia, so I knew I wanted to give these cards a try and see if they would have been helpful. I remember watching him begin to struggle. Watching him going from the person I first met to the one he became, it was a hard and sad thing for my heart. I would have loved if we had something like this to engage with him.
I am not sure if he would have appreciated these as much as we would have appreciated the idea of wanting to help him. He loved to talk and tell stories even when they didn’t make sense or we had heard them before. An item that can spark a memory, start a topic with the desire for them to share something is what I think they should be trying to go for with an item such as this.
This item arrived as small little booklets that are magazine style, held together with staples. The pictures come with well-known phrases.
This item was okay, but I found the sayings off putting on a lot of the pictures. I understand the point is to show a picture and include a common phrase or saying that goes with it; but a lot of what was used is negative and was slightly upsetting to even me.
One of the phrases used is “A fish out of water” the picture is of 2 dead fish lying on the cement.
Why? I can only see this causing upset! There are several different images I can think of instead that could have been used here and had been much better.
I didn’t find the booklets particularly engaging. I really liked the quick quizzes though! These have you read a sentence where a word is missing in them. For example:
“Plenty of ______ in the sea”
Having a fill in like this helps spark memory recall. I thought this was a very good feature in these!
The colorful images of animals I think would have been good on their own without the phrases included with them. Or at least instead of phrases that don’t make a lot of sense and are upsetting even, perhaps a fact about the animal instead.
– A Peacocks tail feathers can be 6 feet tall!
– Peacocks are a bird that can fly.
Those are two example of my own I think could have been better.
The image of the Parrots while yes it is a pretty picture, very colorful, the phrase on the card says,
“Kill two birds with one stone” or another card has a picture of a cat and the quote is “Curiosity killed the cat” I found these to be very off putting. I would eliminate any phrase with a negative saying or a potentially confusing comment. I have never cared for these types of idioms used in an item such as these, especially when it is not relevant to the products use. It will only cause more confusion and upset for the user.
I saw in one of the other reviews someone saying this parrot image and saying in particular was upsetting to their family member they were using the cards with.
We don’t want the images and phrases to be upsetting or triggering!
A lot of the phrases included in this I think were fine and will serve their purpose. I would still change some of the phrases though. Perhaps have them be facts about what is in the picture instead. This will also offer variety which can only be more helpful.
I also would have liked to see these where instead of being little magazine books, these could have been Index flash cards or something of that sort.
This item is a really good idea but I think it needs a way to be higher quality, less triggering phrases, and these felt a bit underwhelming and not something engaging to use or look through.
Had these images been laminated that would be great because then they will stand the test of time, can be used again and again, and have an appearance of quality that will draw the user in. These reminded me more of something you would see laying on a table with newspapers and magazines; an item lost in the shuffle.

I received “Relaxing Cognitive Memory Adult Game Picture Books for Dementia Activities for Seniors, Alzheimers Products for Elderly, Large Print Illustrated English Saying, Gifts for Dementia Patients.” These are really more like magazines than like books. They’re not really bound, just stapled in the center. The paper is glossy, and the pictures and writing are clear and bright. The fonts are mostly large, so people with visual difficulties will be able to read them. The only exception is the answers in the back are printed in smaller font. There is one sheet, front and back, of quiz questions in the front. The rest of the book is just pictures with sayings. I imagine these books could also be helpful for children or for people learning English as a second language, although the pictures don’t give context to the meaning. For example, “proud as a peacock” just has a picture of a peacock, not of a human actually exhibiting pride.
